The Vanishing Women: A Daughter’s Hunt for the Truth Behind Her Father’s Failed Dates

Six women. Six perfect dates. Six disappearances, each one swallowing hope the morning after. My father had buried his wife twelve years earlier, and for most of that time he refused to even consider loving again. When he finally joined a dating app, I thought we were watching him come back to lifeInstead, I watched him lose something new each time. Every date ended the same way: warmth, laughter, plans to meet again — then silence. No calls, no texts, no explanation. “I don’t understand,” he’d whisper. “They all seemed so happy.”

A Pattern No One Could Explain
After the sixth woman vanished, I couldn’t write it off as bad luck anymore. The timing was too exact, the disappearances too clean. Something was interfering with my father’s chance at happiness, and I needed to know what.

Rachel’s Favor
I asked my best friend Rachel to go on one date with him, just to see what would happen. She laughed at first, certain I was joking, but eventually agreed. The date went better than either of us expected — she called me glowing, insisting nobody had given him a fair chance.

The next morning, she disappeared too. Calls went straight to voicemail. By evening, a text arrived that didn’t sound like her at all: Don’t contact me. Please.

I drove to her apartment. Her car sat outside, her lights were on, but no one answered the door. She finally called the next day, her voice shaking, and asked to meet the following morning. I barely slept.

What the Phone Revealed
I caught her outside her office before she disappeared again. When I demanded answers, she showed me her phone — anonymous threats, paired with a photograph of her leaving the restaurant with my father. Whoever sent them knew her address and workplace.

My father wanted police involved immediately. First we checked his security footage and found a hooded figure lingering near the house. The shoes looked familiar — they resembled my aunt Sabrina’s.

It wasn’t proof, but when we confronted her, she confessed. Sabrina had been following and frightening every woman my father dated, convinced she was protecting her late sister’s place in his life. Rachel reported the threats, my father handed over the footage, and Sabrina accepted responsibility, agreeing to get professional help through the legal process that followed.

For a while, my father blamed himself for ever trying again. But months later, he met Jocelyn — and this time, she stayed. Slowly, music and laughter returned to the house. He still misses my mother; that ache never fully goes away. But our family finally found room for both her memory and the future she never got to see.
