Now he wanted her at Christmas dinner, at his mother Patricia’s house in Boulder, so the “family could see her one last time.” Kesha read the message three times and laughed, not because it was funny, but because she understood exactly what Marcus was hoping for.

An Unexpected Invitation From the Past
Marcus still pictured her as the devastated twenty-five-year-old he’d left behind, someone struggling and desperate for acceptance. He had no idea what her life had become in the years since he disappeared and changed his number.
Her assistant, Dana, asked if she was really considering going. Kesha looked out at the city lights and answered simply that she was definitely going.
Four Children, One Unmistakable Resemblance
Christmas morning broke under a clear blue sky as a helicopter lifted off from Austin carrying Kesha and her four children. Noah and Sophia asked eagerly whether they were really about to meet their grandfather and grandmother.
The two boys and two girls, eight years old and dressed in matching holiday outfits, each carried the same eyes, the same smile, the same stubborn jaw. Every one of them was unmistakably Marcus’s child. The man who had run from fatherhood had unknowingly fathered quadruplets.
Arrival in Boulder
As the snow-covered mountains around Boulder came into view, Kesha’s heartbeat quickened, not with fear this time, but with anticipation. At 11:47 a.m., the helicopter set down on the lawn in front of Patricia’s house, snow swirling as the rotors slowed.
Kesha stepped out first, followed by Noah, Ethan, Sophia, and finally Olivia. When Patricia opened the front door and saw the four children, her eyes went wide and the wineglass in her hand slipped and shattered on the floor.
Kesha gathered the children close and asked if they were ready. They nodded together, and the family walked inside as silence swallowed the house.
Marcus stood beside a blonde woman in a red dress, an engagement ring catching the Christmas lights. His confident smile disappeared the instant his eyes found the children, moving from Noah to Ethan to Sophia to Olivia as recognition drained the color from his face.
His fiancée whispered his name, asking who the children were. Marcus said nothing. Kesha stepped further into the room, rested her hand on Olivia’s shoulder, and told him quietly that she had brought the grandchildren he never knew he had.
The ring box slipped from Marcus’s hand. His fiancée gasped, and Patricia staggered backward. Then one of the children looked up at Marcus with an innocent smile and began to ask him a question, before the entire room froze, and the moment was left hanging.
