The object turned out to be the work of a case-bearing moth larva, commonly known as a plaster bagworm. This small creature constructs a protective case around itself using whatever fine material it finds nearby—lint, hair, dust, and other forgotten fibers.
Rather than being something to fear, the tube was simply a tiny home, carried and built by an insect using overlooked scraps of household debris.
Learning the truth didn’t erase the strangeness of the discovery—it deepened it. The plaster bagworm’s quiet presence was a reminder that small, persistent life continues beneath baseboards and behind furniture, unnoticed but not unremarkable.
