Actor Chad Lowe and his family are mourning an unimaginable loss after the death of his 13-year-old daughter, Fiona Lowe.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner has now released Fiona’s cause of death, bringing new heartbreak to a family already struggling with the sudden loss of a child they described as “the light of our lives.”
Chad Lowe and his wife, producer Kim Painter, confirmed their daughter’s death in an emotional statement, saying they were “deeply heartbroken” over the loss of their beloved girl.
“She was a loving young girl who was smart, creative, and loved to dance,”the family shared, adding that Fiona was deeply loved by her parents and adored by her sisters.
“In fact, she was the light of our lives. Her passing is devastating for our entire family and we ask for prayers and privacy at this time.”
The family concluded their statement by encouraging anyone struggling with their mental health or experiencing a crisis to reach out for support through the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner confirmed that Fiona died by suicide at a hospital.
Fiona was the second of Chad Lowe and Kim Painter’s three daughters and the niece of actor Rob Lowe.
News of the 13-year-old’s death also reached the school community she had been part of.
Last Tuesday morning, parents reportedly received an email from the school principal informing them of Fiona’s passing and offering support to students and staff.
“It is with deep sadness that I am calling you to advise you of the death of one of our students,”
the message said.
The school also extended condolences to Fiona’s family, friends and teachers while making counselors available to anyone who needed emotional support.
For several days, the Lowe family remained largely private as they grieved.
Then Fiona’s older sister, 17-year-old Mabel Lowe, shared a heartbreaking tribute.
One day after the family announced Fiona’s death, Mabel reposted their statement to her Instagram Stories while Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide” played in the background.
Days later, she returned to Instagram with a deeply personal message dedicated to her younger sister.
Alongside a collection of photographs of the two sisters together, Mabel wrote:
“I love you so much fiona. I wish your short time here was easier and i hope your mind is at ease now, I will honor you forever and keep your memory alive. I love you, i hope you knew just how much.”
The tribute offered a painful glimpse into the bond between the sisters and the depth of the loss the Lowe family is now trying to process.
